Principal Software Engineer – Motor Controls

As a Principal Software Engineer – Motor Controls at Endeavor Robotics, you will be developing and enhancing motor control algorithms for unmanned ground robots.

In this role, you will collaborate with software, electrical, and mechanical engineers. You will contribute to all aspects of the product development lifecycle. You should be comfortable jumping into an existing design and root causing complex system issues.
The ideal candidate will be able to work at all levels of the software stack, from low level motor control to higher level motion control algorithms.

• Design, implement, and test motor control software.
• Debug and root cause complex motor control issues.
• Contribute to other aspects of the system, e.g. manipulation controls, self-collision avoidance, etc.
• Proactively write software documentation.


Required Skills:
• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• 10+ years of prior motor control experience on production systems.
• Prior production experience with both brushed and brushless DC motor control.
• Solid understanding of control theory fundamentals down to the hardware level.
• Experience with model based design, creating and working with motor models.
• Experience designing, tuning, and testing PID loops.
• Solid understanding of C and C++ programming languages.
• Proficient in Linux application development.
• Proactive and self-directing, able to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Desired Skills:
• Experience with a variety of control techniques, including sensorless, feedforward, etc.
• Experience w/ HDL (Hardware Description Languages) is a plus.
• Experience w/ Linux kernel development is a plus.
• Experience interfacing with various hardware devices, e.g. serial, I2C, USB, etc.
• A strong passion for robotics
• Prior experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) is a plus.
