Job Title: Manager, Systems Engineering
Location: Chelmsford, MA

How you will make a difference:
We are seeking a talented, self-motivated, and experienced Manager of Systems Engineering with demonstrated success in leading Systems Engineering groups/organizations in applying Systems Engineering process and rigor to develop and deliver new and/or modified products that meet or exceed requirements, on time and within budget. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing and developing a world class Systems Engineering staff while improving the Systems Engineering process and methods to increase effectiveness, quality, and efficiency.
As Manager of Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and growing a small team of engineers whose roles include Lead Systems Engineer on product development projects, Systems Engineering Manager leading HW/SW development on large Government programs, Project Lead managing all engineering aspects of internal product development projects, and Integration, and Verification, and Validation (IV&V) Lead. You will report to our Director of Engineering and work with other Engineering discipline managers to shape and execute the overall direction of the engineering organization, including continued development of our engineering personnel. In addition, you will apply your experience in design, development, and product fielding to support our program teams as needed, including significant DoD programs that will provide our service members with capable Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) systems to achieve Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), combat engineering, and reconnaissance missions.

Responsibilities:


The Manager of Systems Engineering will:


• Lead a team of Systems Engineers with varying levels of experience in the application of Systems Engineering process to DoD and commercial products and programs
• Act as primary Systems Engineering interface to other discipline managers and the company leadership team
• Work effectively to build and motivate the Systems Engineering team to deliver outstanding results and grow their capabilities
• Review Systems Engineering project scope, schedule, and deliverables
• Ensure that proper product life cycle management practices are applied, including design reviews, risk management, issue resolution, and tracking of program expense and product cost using the Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
• Assist with project/program execution, business development activity, and other high level initiatives as needed, including possibly serving on a project or program as project lead or chief engineer


We desire to fill this role with a highly experienced Systems Engineer, with technical domain expertise and deep understanding of Systems Engineering methodology and experience in the application thereof, as well as proven ability to lead and mentor other Systems Engineers. To be successful in this role, the individual should be proficient in managing personnel, project scheduling and budgeting, possess sufficient technical knowledge to accurately assess Systems Engineering progress, identify and manage risks and opportunities, size Systems Engineering work and provide basis of estimates, and perform resource planning and allocation.


Required Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering or science from an accredited college or university
• 15+ years of relevant experience working on technology product development and managing technical teams
• 8+ years design experience that includes functional architecture, physical synthesis, prototyping, and product finalization
• 5+ years functional management experience leading technical teams
• Significant experience in Systems Engineering, including application of Systems Engineering methodologies across the entire product development life cycle, to include mission need analysis, requirements development and allocation, design trade analysis, establishment and tracking of SWAP budgets, design reviews, IV&V planning and execution, etc.
• Accomplished in engineering and/or scientific domain of expertise
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills, with experience interfacing with company leadership and DoD customers
• Leader of IPTs / cross-functional teams and/or direct line management in a product development environment
• Familiarity with various technical/scientific domains and can work through complex issues across engineering and manufacturing disciplines
• Proficient with MS Windows OS and MS Office applications (including MS Project)
• Experience with Systems Engineering tools such as the IBM Rational product family
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance


Preferred Experience
• Master's Degree in engineering or science from an accredited college or university
• Experience in Systems Engineering specialty functions such as modeling & simulation and reliability analysis
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Agile development approaches, cybersecurity considerations, etc.
• Technical project leadership, including development of cost and schedule estimates, risk management, administering system design reviews, administering production readiness reviews, etc.
• Product development leadership experience in a robotics related field
• Design and development of rugged, reliable systems for military applications
• Experience with EVM CAM tracking and reporting
• Managed subcontractors performing aspects of design and development
• Working experience with MS SharePoint, PTC Windchill, Linux OS
• Active DoD Secret clearance
