Job Title:             Senior Analog Electrical Engineer

 

Location:             Chelmsford, MA

 

How you will make a difference:

In this role, you will join our Electrical Engineering Department in creating world class electrical designs for robotic systems targeted for the Defense and Security markets. The candidate must have extensive knowledge and experience in designing analog and mixed signal electronics focusing on motor drivers and motion control subsystems. Additional experience with power management and battery charging is a plus. The successful candidate will enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team of some of the best and brightest engineers, engaging in the analysis, design, documentation, testing and manufacturing of complex robotic systems. This position requires excellent technical capabilities and communication skills.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement motion control solutions for complex robotic systems as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Deliver prototypes and shippable hardware at a fast pace to meet short-term customer obligations and achieve competitive advantage.
  • Perform and document test and verification activities at the electrical circuit board and/or subsystem level.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering and customers (both internal and external), suppliers, and test houses.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide significant technical analysis and commentary on the system and engineering specification,
    schematic, PCB design, and verification phases of development.
  • Work independently on project tasks as well as with other team members across multiple disciplines (mechanical, software, and systems engineering).

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in motor sizing & selection, motor driver amplifier design, and motion control subsystems.
  • Performance of trade-off analyses for conflicting requirements such as divergent motor torque and speed load points.
  • Thorough understanding of control theory and practical experience with emphasis on motor control applications.
  • Hands-on experience with field-oriented control, PI controllers, nested current and velocity motor control loops, and motor controller tuning.
  • Knowledge of DC Brushed and Brushless motor performance characteristics and specifications.
  • Demonstrable ability to create detailed hardware and functional specifications, and design verification reports.
  • Experience with schematic entry and basic printed circuit board design preferably in Altium.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design for EMI, EMC, and ESD compliance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design for manufacturability and testability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • BSEE, MSEE preferred.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with contacting and non-contacting battery chargers.
  • Experience with robotic systems.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (i.e. SPICE).
  • Experience with system simulation tools.
  • Intermediate/advanced Altium Designer skills.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill PLM system.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and OneNote tools.
